Launch Day Memoirs

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, we're going to take a trip down memory lane. We've just experienced a video game console launch. Two of them, in fact. And oh, what a fun time it is. The excitement of getting new merchandise, the fun of hooking up your toy, and the thrill of learning how a new system works.
Good times were had by all. Well, most, at least. There were always some bugs: red rings, yellow lights, and whatnot.

The first console launch I recall being aware of was that of the Nintendo 64. It was a big deal.  I remember standing in line for around an hour to play the demo console in Wal-Mart.
And what did we play? Super Mario 64. Possibly the most influential game ever. If you don't know about it, look it up, you troll.
It was great. The ability to move freely around in three dimensions. New, fantastical worlds to explore.
Oh, so much fun.
And that's the point. Fun. Cutting through all the fanboying and brand loyalty, the point behind a console launch, for us consumers, is to have fun.

Feel free to share your memories as well!
